Shogetsudo

Right across from Togenuki Jizo-son, an inviting aroma of toasted soy sauce drifts from the storefront of Shogetsudo. Infused with charcoal-grilled flavour, the yaki dango and mitarashi dango offer a firm yet tender chew, coated in a sweet-savoury glaze that leaves a lasting impression. Being able to purchase just a single skewer makes them an effortless, satisfying snack while wandering the neighbourhood.

A classic Sugamo speciality that should not be missed, the shio daifuku strikes a fine balance between a lightly salted mochi exterior and a gently sweetened red bean filling. There are options to suit different preferences as well, from bite-sized mini shio daifuku for a casual taste to awa daifuku made with millet for an earthy grain character. The display case is rounded out by traditional handcrafted sweets such as seasonal sakuramochi, yomogi mochi, and charming Jizo monaka wafers.

Chilled amazake offers crisp refreshment during the summer months, while steaming amazake warms through in cooler weather, making either an ideal match for the confections. Inside, a small seating area allows visitors to pause for tea and sweets between temple visits and shopping.
